Union-Wide Digital Growth: A Custom Multi-Site Solution for an International Labor Union

The International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC) is a trade union that represents members who construct, modernize, repair, and service elevators, escalators, moving walkways, and other conveyances in the United States, Canada, Guam, and Puerto Rico.

To close the gap between its industry members and Local offices and to facilitate the connection of IUEC-signatory elevator companies with building managers and owners, IUEC’s Elevator Industry Work Preservation Fund (EIWPF) enlisted inSegment to design and build websites for 30 Union Locals that were missing, or had an outdated and obsolete, digital presence.

Many IUEC Local Unions lacked functional websites or had outdated ones. This created a disconnect between Locals, members, and building owners seeking qualified elevator contractors. There was also a need for member-specific tools, improved SEO, and a scalable, secure infrastructure.

To address these challenges, inSegment developed a scalable WordPress Multi-Site platform hosted on AWS, offering customizable templates for each Local. Key features include:

• Event calendars, labor links, and licensing info

• Centralized security, fast deployment, and ongoing content updates

To ensure each website reflected the unique identity of its Local, inSegment’s content team engaged directly with stakeholders through interviews and tailored questionnaires. This collaborative approach helped define content priorities, align expectations, and capture each Local’s distinct voice. The result featured dynamic, engaging websites with personalized content, photo galleries, news updates, and event calendars—showcasing each Local’s professionalism, community, and commitment to the industry.
